After getting back to face to face Guiding without any restrictions, our numbers are back to high levels along with the noise!
The programme and badges changed in 2019 and now consists of 6 themed awards which run across the four sections; Rainbows, Brownies, Guides & Rangers.
They are Know Myself, where girls explore emotions and learn about themselves, build confidence and discover how feelings affect behaviour. Express Myself, in which the girls develop their creativity in all sorts of ways, make up stories and solve problems, start thinking laterally and teaching creative skills to friends. Be Well is where the girls learn how to stay healthy and how to help others when they’re hurt. Have Adventures where the girls have the chance to overcome fears, try new activities and learn survival skills. Take Action where the girls build skills to make a positive difference, whether in their community, the wider world or with the people they know. Finally, Skills For My Future in which the girls investigate what they might like to do in the future and how they can grow their life skills.
There are a number of things the girls need to do to gain their Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards in their sections and these awards really do show the commitment the girls have to Guiding.
We have been on litter picks with the Wombles in the village, helped Santa at the village fayre, made star constellations with a tin can, a nail and a hammer, we have made mini torches, created our own versions of ‘operation’, celebrated Burns night by making shortbread and rolling the haggis! We have collected for Ukraine, been axe throwing, collected an a-z of nature, celebrated the Queen’s jubilee with crown making and a traditional street party where our young leader made scones and the girls had to make the butter as well as give precise instructions to make the sandwiches.
This shows a little of what we get up to at 1st Enderby Guides.
This year we ended our Summer Term with a ‘festival’ themed night to celebrate 1 bronze, 4 silver and 2 Gold Awards to Lucy & Grace. (With a further Gold being awarded earlier in the year to Amber). Lucy & Grace also attended a formal awards ceremony where Guides & Rangers from Leicestershire were all presented with their Gold Awards by the President of the Leicestershire Guide Association at Topstones, the county campsite.
All the events and activities are run by volunteers. If you would like to join Guiding and use your skills and learn new ones, laugh till your sides ache, empower young members, make friends for life, make a real difference and make guiding happen, you might offer us a skill or an interesting talk, or you might want to join the team – whichever, we would love to hear from you.
