A busy year at Leicester Animal Aid

Here at Leicester Animal Aid, a cat and dog rehoming centre based in Huncote, we’re busy preparing for Christmas; it’s a magical time of year and we always try to make it extra special for the cats and dogs spending the festive season with us.

There will be a visit from Santa Paws with presents and tasty treats for all the residents. Whilst we know that top of their Christmas wish list is a forever home, until one is found they will get all the love and attention they deserve.

We’ve had an incredibly busy year at the Centre which has, sadly, seen an increase in cats and dogs needing our care. The cattery nursery has been hearing the patter of tiny paws more than usual with a significant rise in the number of stray and unwanted pregnant cats.

One of the highlights of the year was our Family Fun Day and Dog Show which for the first time was held at Huncote Sports and Social Club. We welcomed hundreds of supporters and had 137 entries into the dog show classes which was fantastic. Another annual event we look forward to is the Pet Service and Blessing at St James the Greater, Huncote. It was lovely to be invited again and we were made to feel very welcome.

The year has also been tinged with sadness with the passing of our Chairperson, Anne Martin. Anne began volunteering with L.A.A. in the late 1990s and, from the start, was willing to roll up her sleeves and lend a hand with any task (and any animal!) that needed her help.

We want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported us this year. It makes a huge difference to the cats and dogs at the Centre. To find out what’s going on and to see the residents we have searching for their forever home please visit our website www.leicesteranimalaid.org.uk
