Local schoolchildren from across the district have been exploring the world of air quality and going green with a series of lessons from Blaby District Council.
Blaby District Council has benefitted from £135,000 in funding from Defra for its “Countdown to Clean Air” project. Part of this funding is for school engagement to raise awareness about air quality to primary-age pupils.
The Council is committed to becoming carbon neutral by 2030, and the district becoming carbon neutral by 2050.
Officers with a specialism in air quality and active travel have started their sessions by visiting Danemill Primary in Enderby.
The session, which coincide with Great Big Green Week, includes information about climate change and air quality, with the content targeted towards children of primary age to make it both fun and easy to understand.
It is hoped that pupils will come away knowing about how climate change and air quality are linked, passing this knowledge on to their parent/guardian for positive behavioural change.
More proactive engagement work is planned across district primary schools over the coming months as the Council maximises the opportunities to inform and educate young people about air quality.
