The cast of Thurlaston Players and the production team are now resting up after the delivery of a very welcomed and successful variety show called “Changing Times”. The show ran for 4 nights, to packed audiences at Thurlaston Village Hall from the 23rd to 26th March. The Thurlaston Players have now been going for over 30 years and were delighted to get “treading the boards” again after a two-year break due to COVID. People really appreciated the return of face-to-face entertainment with a live pianist.
Audiences enjoyed a variety of entertainment set against a themed background of old verses and new. The show was introduced by a compere with timed interruptions by the character of Honey Gee. To give a flavour of the entertainment, old-time musical songs challenged more modern counterparts. A choir sang songs from Sister Act, Magic Marvo (and his glamorous assistant) mesmerised the audience with his mind reading act. Sketches featured “Stars in their eyes” (with a duet by our own versions of Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, and solos by Rag and Bone Man and Amy Winehouse), “I’m a celebrity get me out of here”, and “Toy Story”. There was a fabulous synchronised swimming performance. The finale was a tribute to the rock group Queen.
The show involved a number of wonderful volunteers who write, produce, make costumes, paint scenery, prompt, organise backstage, pull curtains, do sound and lighting, make refreshments, wait at tables, make props and run a bar. It really is a team effort and a great community affair.
Thurlaston Players would like to thank all who took part, helped, supported and attended as audience members. A team is already working on writing next year’s show. We hope you can join us!
