Double Celebration at Enderby Bowls Club

A double celebration was held at Enderby Bowls Club recently. As well as Club President’s Day, for the first time in the Club’s long history, the occasion was an extra special event as the Men’s and Ladies’ Presidents for the coming year will be a husband and wife team.

Charlie and Cheryl Riggall were installed as joint Presidents for the next twelve months. Many members and friends attended this event, including a number of recently joined new members.

The day’s celebration commenced with a bowling schedule supervised by John Hanford and started with the “Spider” game, the proceeds going to the charity Bowling for the visually impaired. This charity helps handicapped bowlers, providing equipment and tuition so they can better enjoy the game.

Bowling continued with a not too serious rolling programme of 12 teams playing a bowls game against each other for six ends, the rink winner moving on to play the next team. The game winner had the highest score, after which everyone went into the well laid out Club House, where George Sim, the M.C. for the day, introduced and welcomed the Presidents in the traditional manner.

After a splendid tea followed by acceptance speeches from both presidents, presentations were made to members who had worked or served in other ways for the Club, including the people who had decorated the Club House and set out the tables and prepared the Meal. Finally, a large raffle followed, with a considerable sum being raise for the Air Ambulance Service.

All members wished Charlie and Cheryl the best for the future and felt sure they would enjoy their year in office.
