Enderby Area U3A - "The Camera in the Garden"

At the August meeting of Enderby Area U3A  we had an eagerly awaited second visit from Richard Adams. ..an extraordinary amateur photographer from our neighbouring county, tiny Rutland. He reminded us that photographs can feed our senses with the memories they bring of places, colours and of the beauty that is all around us.

Richard had photographed plants and flowers in his own garden from various angles sometimes a whole flower then with details of perhaps just a petal, or the stem skillfully changing background colours to enhance the picture and in one case showing a bee collecting pollen. As well as plants his garden is home to a variety of birds and with infinite patience he had captured nesting collard doves,  a cheeky robin and a blackbird engaged in a tug-of-war with a worm. Finally from the garden pond came evening pictures of an invasion of frogs engaged in their once a year mating event. By morning the noisy visitors had vanished, leaving behind nothing but frogspawn.

As well as photography Richard Adams has a great love of music and the final part of his presentation was accompanied by  music which enhanced the visual appearance of the pictures. Most memorable were photos of Barnsdale gardens through the seasons showing some of the best of his much loved little county which certainly lives up to its motto “Multum in Parvo” ….much in little.

Our U3A meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month at Enderby Civic Centre starting at 1.45. There are a great variety of interest groups meeting in various venues…or in the open air for walking enthusiasts, something for everyone! Do come and join us,  you can be sure of a warm welcome!
