Enderby Area U3A - What a Wonderful World

When our scheduled speaker was taken ill on the very eve of our August meeting, Richard Adams, a former planning officer at Rutland County Council, came to the rescue with his talk entitled “What a Wonderful World”. He chose to use two of the senses which he considered the most evocative to bring back memories, visual and sound, and then employed many beautiful photographs set to music to transport us all to an afternoon of delight.

As always we are limited by space to describe every moment, but try to imagine views of the Dutch Keukenhof Gardens accompanied by ‘Tulips from Amsterdam’ played on an old barrel organ, Wildlife in Namibia with John Barry’s theme from ‘Out of Africa’ and a preview of the Rutland Calendar for 2023 to Gustav Holst’s Holberg suite. The sweeping finale finale of the 12 lovely scenes were photos that had been  taken in March 2015 of a phenomenal murmuration of starlings over Rutland Water. The silence when it ended was due to the sheer awe of our members. The applause when it finally broke the silence was deafening.

We can only thank Richard for allowing us into his wonderful world for an hour before he had to return to his home in Oakham. Yes, after seeing and photographing so many wonders of the world his home remains in our lovely neighbouring county!

Enderby U3A meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 1.45 p.m in the Civic  centre.  If you would like to know more about us you can contact Anne, our membership secretary on 07933 165200
