Enderby Bowls Club held their annual “Open Days” at their Club House and Bowling Green on Mill Lane, opposite the Leisure Centre. Their superb Club House with its many modern facilities was open for inspection and the Bowling Green set out with equipment for visitors to try the game themselves.
Members were in attendance to show visitors around and how a game of bowls is conducted. They were encouraged to roll the bowl to the jack to see the simplicity of the game. Bowling is a skilled game, there is little to learn before starting and it did not take long for visitors to enjoy having a “Roll Up” especially as Tea, drinks and light refreshments were offered afterwards.
In the afternoon a friendly team match took place against a local club to demonstrate to visitors how a Bowls Match would normally be played in a friendly and social, yet competitive manner.
On the following day the green was set out with bowls games to entertain visitors and show that bowling is a pleasurable activity.
These Open Days were certainly a success as 19 new members joined our Club. This achievement is gratifying after all the hard work members put in to make it a success.
The long term future of this village club is assured and Enderby Bowls Club will build on this large increase in members by forming more teams to enter in local Inter Club Bowling Leagues. This will give our bowlers a chance to play more friendly and competitive bowling.
If you are interested in out-door activities why not give us a ring and we will show you around and you can try the game out. We will supply the equipment and Bowls Tutors will be on hand.
