Our Summer Sizzlers will be well underway by the time you read this. There will be children’s activities in the library, on Mill Lane rec plus wombling further afield. These events run up to the end of the school holidays so check for details on FB and in the library. We’ve printed a handy flier you can pick up so you don’t miss any of the fun.
This year’s Summer Reading Challenge launched on the 2nd July and runs until the 10th September with the theme ‘Gadgeteers’. Enderby Library is taking part in this again. We have all you need to sign up and earn your stickers, pencils, medals and certificates. We have so many books on the theme you will find it easy to read the six you need to complete the challenge. There is a little treasure hunt in the library as well for youngsters.
Marilyn Ricci’s talk on Carlton Hayes was very well received. She read extracts from her book Dancing at the Asylum, written as a tribute to the patients who lived and died there. As we’d hoped, a lot of people who were involved with Carlton Hayes came along and shared their memories. The exhibition of photos and articles on the hospital will be left up in the library for a few weeks in case you haven’t seen it yet. Thank you to Enderby Heritage Society for a lot of the information and to The Journal, past copies of which provided interesting glimpses of the place in its latter years. The raffle proceeds went to MIND. We are contacting other local authors to arrange for them to come in and talk to us whenever dates can be agreed.
Thank you to those who donated money for the sunflower plants. They are all gone now and are hopefully brightening up Enderby gardens. The money was added to that already raised at the allotments and the Jubilee Party in the Park event and has gone to help the humanitarian effort in Ukraine.
Don’t forget all our regular activities – Busy Hands on Mondays, Games Group first Wednesday of the month, Creative writing last Saturday, pre-schoolers last Wednesday, coffee morning once a month (July’s is on the 16th so you may get this Journal just in time to remind you! August’s is on the 13th and September’s on the 10th).
