Have you ever thought about the connection between reading and well-being? Research shows that just five minutes of reading can help to reduce stress by nearly 20%, improve concentration and focus and helps us to feel more connected to others and ready to tackle challenges. So, what are you waiting for? We have thousands of books. Our fiction covers many genres – crime, family saga, adventure, thrillers, horror, fantasy. We also have a good selection of reference books covering a wide range of topics such as health issues, holiday planning, crafts, cookery, finances etc. Joining is free and you can then also access all of Leicestershire County Council libraries. Don’t be shy, come and join and make sure you get the positive effects from reading too!
We’ve been super busy during March and April in the library with all our regular activities thriving. The children’s Easter Holiday activity session was very well attended, with the children enjoying clay modelling and other crafts as well as a raft of games and activities. Our April fund-raising coffee morning was busy, and it was lovely to meet some new folk as well as catch up with our regular supporters. Leicestershire police attended the coffee morning and were on hand to offer advice and reassurance as well as have a cake and a cuppa! And finally, last week saw our annual celebration of Shakespeare’s birthday. Julia, with the help of some of our other volunteers, gave an insightful and relaxed evening presentation. The audience participated and their feedback was that it was a very enjoyable evening and, of course, the wine and nibbles were good too!
Our regular activities are still on-going, and all take place in the library. Busy Hands is every Monday 2.30-4pm. Adult Games Group is the first Wednesday of the month 2-4pm (1st May and 5th June); Adult Crafting next meeting is 8th May 2.30-4pm; Creative Writing is the last Saturday in the month 10.30am-12pm (25th May); Pre-schooler sessions 2-3pm 29th May and 26th June. If you would like to take part in any of these just pop along and you will be warmly welcomed.
Finally, a shout out to all our lovely volunteers. The month of May sees our 8th anniversary as a Community Library, and we will be celebrating this at our coffee morning May 11th 10am-1pm. Thank you to all our volunteers, both past and present, who make sure that our library remains a useful and thriving community space. We rely totally on our volunteers to keep the library active; so, if you fancy joining our team please come along and we’ll show you how.
