Enderby Community Library April 2025

Well, we certainly had a busy and fun filled April. Our annual Shakespeare event was very well attended and looked at “Significant speeches.” Julia, as ever, gently guided the discussions and encouraged some fun audience participation. It was a fitting tribute to the Bard’s birthday month!

Our Adult Social crafting group are getting ever more ambitious. Under the tutelage of Audrey, the ladies made cards using multiple media, including iris folding and stamping. A good selection of Easter and spring cards were produced. Our next sessions 13th May and 10th June 2.30-4pm. Our other regular craft group, Busy Hands, meets every Monday 2.30-4pm and has been prolific in generating funds for the library from their work. They’ve made whimsical cushions, knitted pot plants, cuddly gonks, sewed beach bags and Easter gifts; their talents have been amazing. Thank you, ladies, for your tremendous support, we truly appreciate your hard work.

Our activity and craft afternoon for children during the Easter holidays was a hit. Over 30 children with their carers came to the library to play and take part in the crafting activities. The adults joined in too – who doesn’t like to play with Lego or Duplo? Both the marble and domino run proved challenging and there was plenty of competitive spirit on Connect Four and other games! A big thank you to our volunteers who make sure everyone is welcomed and encouraged to join in. It was busy and brilliant to see everyone making use of all the facilities in the library. We also had some new library joiners and people borrowing books for the first time. So, a win-win for us all.

Our April coffee morning benefited from the super weather and we saw some new faces as well as welcoming back our regulars. The homemade cakes and crumbles were, as always, top notch and a big shout out to our volunteers who help set up, bake, clear away, wash up, man the tombola and book stalls, flog raffle tickets, and generally make it happen. We’d also like to thank every single person who comes in and supports us – it means we are able to keep the library open and we hope you enjoy meeting friends and catching up. Our next coffee morning is 10th May 10am-1pm for more of the same.

Our other group activities continue with enthusiasm. Creative writing is the last Saturday in the month 10.30-2pm (next session 31st May); Tots playtime is the last Wednesday in the month 2-3pm (next session is 28th May); Games group is the first Wednesday in the month 2-4pm (next sessions 7th May and 4th June). Further details on these, and any of our activities can be found at the library. And finally, if you want to help at the library, pop in and chat to one of our volunteers to see what it entails. We have volunteers who specifically help with fund raising events or our library displays rather than library work too, so lots of options!
