Enderby Community Library February 2024

Well, we’ve already held two fabulous coffee mornings this year and everyone has been fantastic in supporting us. I asked a couple of people at our Valentine’s coffee morning yesterday why they liked coming. They said that they valued the community aspect, how they enjoyed meeting new people as well as old friends; the delicious homemade cakes and the fabulous pre-loved book sale were also mentioned as was the genuinely warm welcome from the library volunteers. Our next Spring-themed coffee morning is March 9th, where we will have some Mothering Sunday gifts & Easter treats for sale- so do come along if you can.

We’ve also got a couple of other special fund-raising events coming up. Firstly, our much-anticipated annual quiz is Saturday 24th February at the Civic Centre7-9.30pm with doors open at 6.30pm. There are still some tickets available -the price is £7 and includes a Ploughman’s supper. Tickets are only available until Friday 16th February from the library and need to be paid for at the time of purchase as we are unable to take cash on the evening. Please bring your own drinks and drinking vessels! Teams of 6 will take part but don’t worry if you aren’t in a team as you can be allocated to one on the evening.

Our second special event is a talk entitled “Enderby and the 1921 Census” to be given by Elizabeth York- the Chair of the Enderby Heritage Society. This will take place Saturday 2nd March 2-4pm and tickets at £5 (including light refreshments) are available from the library. If this inspires you to research your own family history then don’t forget that we have online access from the library computers to both the Find My Past website which includes the 1921 census as well as the Ancestry website which includes the 1911 census as well as basic birth, marriage, and death details as well as military records.

Our regular activities-Busy Hands every Monday afternoon 2.30-4pm, Adult games group -first Wednesday of the month 2-4pm and Creative Writing -next sessions February 24th and April 6th. Our next Adult Social Crafting (and Cake!) craft session is Tuesday 12th March2.30-4pm. Some of our crafters and busy hands ladies have been busy with Audrey and Barbara making Spring wreaths and flower posies, badges etc to fund raise for the library. These are available for sale in the library so pop in and see which one takes your fancy-they are lovely harbingers of spring. Our sessions are all always open to new joiners- so don’t be shy you will be warmly welcomed!

Finally, not forgetting children- our half-term activity is on Thursday 22nd February 2.30-4pm- £2 per child and will include crafting and games. Our regular pre-school sessions -newborns to pre- schoolers are Wednesday 28th February and Wednesday 27th March 2-3pm-£1 per child. This is a great opportunity for little ones to interact and for Mums, Dads, Grandparents, to meet and socialise in a warm and friendly environment.
