Enderby Community Library February 2025

It’s with much relief that we can confirm that our new library system is up and running. Printing and photocopying are now also available. Thanks to all the volunteers who gave up their time to be trained and to test out the new system too. There are still a few tweaks to be made by the systems boffins but overall, we are all pleased with what we can now do.

By the time this is published our ticketed event, in conjunction with the Enderby Heritage Society, will have taken place. Over 50 tickets for the talk about Quarrying in the area (with specific reference to Enderby) have been sold so far and the proceeds are to be shared between the library and the Heritage Society. We are looking to host other joint events throughout the year so keep a look out on the Library and Parish notice boards as well as The Journal for further details.

The half term holiday in February saw over 20 children having fun at the library doing a variety of activities including the ever popular Marble run, Lego building and crafting. We met some new families and had several children and adults join the library. Our next children’s holiday session is during the Easter break – details to follow. Remember, the library is free to join, and you can take books out immediately. You also get access to the online library catalogue so that even if Enderby doesn’t have the book you want, we can order it in from one of the other Leicestershire libraries (free for children & a small charge for adults). You can also download books onto your e-readers (kindles/mac-books etc).

Looking forward we have our annual Shakespeare afternoon on Saturday April 5th 2-4pm. Julia will be exploring some of his work and explaining its relevance to its time and to us now. As always, she will answer any questions and encourage discussion from the participants. So come along to this £5 ticketed event, which includes light refreshments, and help kick off the Bard’s birthday month. Tickets are available at the library.

Our usual activities are in full flight. Busy Hands 2-4pm on Mondays, Adult Social Crafting Tuesday March 11th, Tots’ Playtime Wednesday March 26th, Games Group Wednesday March 5th and April 2nd, and Creative Writing Saturday 29th March. And finally, our Spring Coffee morning is Saturday March 8th 10am-1pm. Come and have a chat with a cuppa and a piece (or two) of delicious homemade cake. We have pre-loved books, a raffle and tombola too. Meet your friends or come on your own – we value your support and really look forward to seeing you.

Our annual library quiz tickets sold out in early February and over 70 people (by the time this is published) will have battled it out to become Enderby Library quiz champions! Thanks again to our volunteers for providing their time and raffle prizes to make the evening such a success. All the funds raised go towards keeping us open so thank you to everyone who bought tickets and supported the raffle- we hope you had a fab time!
