Enderby Community Library January 2025

Now I promise that this is the final mention of Xmas 24 but the winner of our Festive Christmas Quiz, with an amazing non-Googled total of 49 out of 50, was Sandra Pritchard. She was absolutely thrilled with her win & popped into the library to pick up her prize. If you missed out on this quiz don’t despair as we are holding our annual quiz in the Civic Centre Saturday 22nd February 7pm (doors open at 6.30pm). Tickets are £5 – all funds to support the library and Geoff is honing his question master tactics in readiness. It’s a similar format to previous years but no food will be provided. There’ll be tea, coffee, hot chocolate and snacks available to buy. Tickets can be bought from the library – we’re unable to reserve them – so don’t miss out!

Our January coffee morning, despite the sub-zero temperature and icy paths was very well attended. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the warm atmosphere and tucked into a homemade cake or two! Our next coffee morning is Saturday 8th February 10am – 1pm; everyone is welcome. Our raffle, tombola & pre-loved books will all be on offer. We’ve also decided to leave our pre-loved book selection out on sale permanently in the library for a while to maximise choice for everyone.

We’ve got a few other events already in the 2025 diary too. Firstly, a half term activity afternoon of Lego, crafts and games Wednesday February 19th 2.30 – 4pm £2 per child. Then, Saturday 1st March 2pm there’s an illustrated talk, by the Enderby Heritage Society, about the Enderby Quarries. Tickets cost £5 (and include soft drinks and biscuits) and are available in the library. The proceeds will go to both the Library and the Heritage Society. So come along and find out what went on in the quarry parts of our village and see how it still influences the landscape today.

Our normal activities continue: Busy Hands every Monday; Over 60s Games group Wednesday 5th Feb and 5th March; Adult Social Crafting Tuesday 11th February; Creative Writing Tuesday 25th February and Tots Playtime Wednesday 26th February.

And finally, February also sees Leicestershire Community Libraries install a new Library Management system. Our library volunteers are busy being trained as I write. There’s a transition period in February where the old system is taken down and the new one is activated so we will be working “off-line” for a week or so – paper and pens at the ready! Unfortunately, there will be no printing or photocopying available from 6 – 17th February either. If you are a E-reader (Borrowbox) user, please ensure that you log in prior to 5th February 7pm otherwise you will be unable to access anything until the new system is live. As in all changes, we hope there’ll be minimal disruption, so please do keep coming in to borrow and return books as normal!
