Enderby Community Library July 2023

We’re starting off with a huge thank you to everyone who supports our coffee mornings and other fund-raising activities; your generosity means we can help keep the library open for the community to enjoy. So please do keep on supporting us – our next coffee morning is Saturday 12th August & we have heaps of second-hand books at 50p each – grab some for summer-garden reading!

Our regular library events have been full on over the last month or so. We had a super turn out for a Pre School-Playtime with several new children and their carers taking part in play and craft activities. The next one is Wednesday 28th July 2-3pm. Our over 60s games group who meet the first Wednesday of the month also had a great turnout with plenty of banter and healthy competitiveness. Our busy hands group – knitting, crocheting and needlework – also meets every Monday afternoon. Try a new activity, everyone is welcome.

We are now well and truly into our children’s summer activities programme. The Summer Reading Challenge runs to 2nd September and children aged 4-11 years can sign up and receive a special pack to fill in. This pack also entitles children to free entry to several local attractions. The theme this year is “Ready, Set, Read” and children can read any kind of books to take part. This is a great way to support their reading focus over the long school holiday too. Our children’s holiday craft activities are centred around the seaside – making model beach huts, fish, shells, pebbles, as well as driftwood mobiles. There will be additional games and puzzles out too. Dates for these are Tuesdays 2-4pm, 25th July, August 1st, 8th & 15th – £2 per session per child.

And finally, a quick heads up for a new autumn literary event. Stewart Bint, a local writer, and contributor to the “Big Red” magazine will be coming to the library to chat about his career and how he became a novelist. Stewart will also be signing copies of his latest book. Watch this space for the date!
