If any of you visited the Enderby Fete in June, you will know that we were looking for a new home for a puppy. One of our regular customers Ruby correctly guessed the puppy’s name and so Rudie is very happy in his new forever home! Thank you to everyone who came by and supported the library’s stall and a big thank you to our volunteers who, as ever, generously gave their time.
We had a lovely time in July welcoming a group of children and their teachers from Danemill to the library. These children had read over 1,700 books between them during the school year- phenomenal! We are hoping that more children from Danemill will visit next year so that they can all see the benefits of our lovely village library. (Photo previously shared on Danemill’s Facebook page).
Our children’s Summer Reading Challenge is going amazingly well. Up to 20th July we already had 47 registered readers and 10 under 4’s taking part in the mini challenge. Children simply need to read 6 books and visit the library 3 times up to 5th September and along the way they’ll receive stickers for their SRC leaflet and mini rewards, culminating in a plantable bookmark, certificate and gold coloured medal! Children can also get free entry to the 1620’s House and the Battle of Bosworth Centre by producing their pamphlet & a full fee-paying adult- so a big win-win for the holidays.
We’ve already held several children’s play activities which have been well attended. Craft sessions, Lego building as well as lots of games. The themes are loosely connected to the SRC of “Story Garden” and there are 3 more sessions left- Wednesdays 6th, 13th and 20th August 2.30-4pm. The cost is £2 per child and a parent or carer does have to be present. Come along and meet new friends, play games and get creative!
Our busy hands group, as well as making amazing items to sell to support the library are beavering away to build stocks of knitted and crocheted poppies ready for Remembrance Sunday in November. The British Legion volunteers sell poppy related items during October and November, and the proceeds go towards supporting current and ex-service men and women and their families. Well done ladies, you are doing a great job! Busy Hands meets every Monday afternoon in the library- everyone is welcome.
And now onto some diary dates. Adult games group Wednesday 6th August 2-4pm, Tots Playtime Wednesday 27th August 2-3pm and Creative writing Saturday 30th August. One event not to miss is Saturday 23rd August 2.30-4pm -“A 100 years of the BBC” presented by Dave Andrews, a former BAdult social crafting BC presenter and producer and very entertaining speaker.
