Enderby Community Library March 2025

Our annual quiz in February was attended by over 70 people who happily battled through the question rounds. Thanks to Geoff for setting the sometimes-challenging quiz and to Nathan for scoring it. Good natured banter was in full force-especially from the rival Womble tables-, and we’d like to thank everyone who turned out to support this ticketed event. We’d also like to thank the library volunteers who donated some cracking raffle prizes too. All the proceeds, of course, go to keeping the library open. So, if you enjoyed this quiz, we’re hoping to hold another one in the autumn, so watch this space for details!

Our next ticketed event is a celebration of Shakespeare which is being hosted by Julia on Saturday April 5th 2-4pm. Tickets are £5 and include light refreshments and are available from the library.

Following on from our collaboration with the Enderby Heritage Society, we’re looking to host a talk about the history of Carlton Hayes. We did something similar a few years ago and it was incredibly popular, and many people have requested a “re-run”. This is likely to be held in early November and will be a ticketed event in the library. Again, details will follow nearer the time.

Our Busy Hands group-which meets every Monday afternoon- have certainly been living up to their name and they have produced a raft of handmade spring and Easter items for sale. As this goes to press they have already raised over £50 so well done! There’s a lovely display of budget friendly items in the library which are super for Mothering Sunday or Easter so do pop in and see.

Our Tots Playtime Hour is going from strength to strength with several new joiners enjoying the toddler type activities and crafts available. The next sessions are Wednesdays 2-3pm 30th April and 28th May. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent or carer and you have a pre-school age child (babes in arms are welcome too) come along for this super sociable time.

Adult Social Crafting group meet monthly too. At their March session the members made beautiful tulips with guidance from Audrey and Pete Wright. The next session is Tuesday 10th June 2.30-4pm. Homemade cake is always on offer too!

Our other groups -Games Group -monthly, the first Wednesday of the month 2-4pm and Creative Writing the last Saturday of the month 10.30am-12pm-continue with enthusiasm. Both groups offer a relaxed format and plenty of good-natured debate. So, if you fancy broadening your skills with some like-minded folk feel free to come along.

Our monthly coffee mornings continue to be well supported so a big thank you from all the volunteer team to everyone who pops in. Our next one is Saturday April 12th where there will be some cracking Easter gifts, our pre-loved books (now available whenever the library is open) will be stocked up and of course, there’s a chance to win on the tombola and the monthly raffle. Home made cakes will be plentiful as will the tea, coffee and chat. Do come along and see what we are all about. You will be most welcome and we’d love to see you.
