We celebrated eight years of being a Community Library at our May coffee morning. That’s around 18,000 volunteer hours, hundreds of baked cakes, and thousands of cups of tea. There was a super crowd who sang a rousing version of Happy Birthday. Thank you to everyone who continues to support our fundraising activities, and here’s to the next eight years!
Volunteering is at the core of the library, and we provide opportunities for Duke of Edinburgh participants to learn new skills whilst supporting the local community. Many of the D of E volunteers come from Brockington College and Eugenie, one of our current D of E volunteers describes the benefits; “During my time at Enderby Library, I have obtained skills such as improved communication and organisation. I was welcomed by the wonderful volunteers when first joining and I have been supported by them through each shift which has made my time here enjoyable. I would recommend anyone undertaking D of E to volunteer here as you will learn valuable skills whilst helping the community”. Thank you, Eugenie, we’ve loved having you with us too!
Our ongoing activities are back on track following the bank holidays. Adult social crafting group is exploring marbling and upcycling-Tuesday 11th June 2.30-4pm & 9th July. The Over 60’s games group meet Wednesday 5th June 2-4pm & 3rd July. Busy Hands group gathers every Monday 2.30-4pm. Fun & relaxed play for newborns to pre-schoolers is Wednesday 28th June 2-3pm & 31st July. And not to be forgotten, Creative Writing is the last Saturday of the month 10.30-12 noon.
Before we know it, the school summer holidays will be here. In conjunction with Leicestershire County Council, we will be running our regular Summer Reading Challenge-watch this space next month for full details. We will also be holding 4 children’s sessions in the library- July 18th & 24th and August 13th & 20th– where there will be Olympic themed games and activities.
It’s Enderby’s turn to host the Police Beat Surgery Friday 7th June 4-5pm. This is an opportunity to chat to our local police about any concerns around crime or security you may have. Feedback from the last surgery was that the police team were helpful, and informative.
Finally, please put 8th June 10am-1pm in your diary when it’s our next fund-raising coffee morning. Come along to meet old and new friends with a homemade cake and a cuppa. Our pre-loved books have been re-stocked (thank you to everyone who donates fiction-we are very grateful) and are perfect for a summer reading fest. So pop along, we look forward to welcoming you!
