Our Remembrance coffee morning was as well attended as ever. One of our volunteers created a lovely poppy display. Interesting to see the old poster requesting books for the men in the army! The money we took for refreshments was donated to the Royal British Legion. We sold some extra items this time and will do so again at the Christmas coffee morning on Saturday December 17th , the last one of the year. The Xmas decorated bags look really attractive and the jars of preserves and glass ornaments are popular. You can still come in to the library any time we are open and order a personalised Christmas bookmark. They make good stocking-fillers.
We hosted a very different talk by Sharon from the National Garden Scheme aka Open Gardens. She told us about the history of the NGS. It was a very interesting presentation. The scheme started in 1928 as a fund-raising idea to support the Queen’s Nursing Institute which was founded to ensure nurses were properly trained. Since then the charity has donated £63 million to nursing and health charities. And of course given pleasure to all of us who have visited some lovely gardens.
The October half term activities were enjoyed by all, adults and children alike. As it was Halloween, we made pumpkin and ghost related items. We also made necklaces/medals from coloured pasta with wooden disks that could be decorated. We had a lot of Lego out which was very popular as well.
Library volunteers helped with the refreshments for the Bake-Off competition organised by Enderby Parish Council’s Events Group. We also decorated biscuits with the children who came in.
Pre-schoolers sessions continue to be great fun. The last one of 2022 will be on Wednesday 30th November, 2 till 3, donation of £1 per child.
We will keep the library open late for the Switch-On of Enderby’s Christmas tree lights on Friday 2nd December. We will be selling our usual books etc and other items you will love. The event runs from 4.30 till 7.
Our Christmas wreath-making session this year is on Wednesday 7th December, 12.30 till 3, £25 per person. All materials and refreshments included.
Come along to the adult social crafting on Wednesday 14th December, 2.30 to 4pm. £2.50 per person. We’ll be making fresh foliage candle decorations. All materials and cake provided.
The library will close at 6pm on Friday 23rd December reopening at 2pm Tuesday 3rd January 2023.
Note for your diaries – annual quiz night – Saturday January 21st 2023.
This is the traditional time of year to thank those who have helped the library over the last 12 months so thank you to Enderby Parish Council for all their support and thanks to everyone who has attended our events. We volunteers really love to see people enjoying our library.
Thank you too to all who produce the Journal and get it delivered to the villages. Happy Christmas to them and all Journal readers from all at Enderby Library and all the best for 2023.
