Enderby Community Library November 2024

Our Richard III event held at the end of October was fantastic and saw 40 people attend an informative presentation by Dave Andrews – a former BBC Leicester journalist – who was one of the first correspondents on the scene when the royal bones were discovered. Dave’s knowledge, narrative and friendly approach ensured that the audience were entertained, informed and able to ask questions. We’re hoping to hold a couple of similar events next year so look out for the publicity in the library or on our Facebook page.
Our November coffee morning was an astounding success and as is our tradition, the proceeds of the refreshments (just from November’s coffee morning) and all poppy (knitted & other) donations go to the Royal British Legion. The total this year was £323. Thank you to everyone who came and supported us.

The volunteer team are getting into the festive spirit early this year. We held an adult crafting day in November where a super array of table decorations, festive bottle lamps and tree ornaments were produced. Fuelled by some homemade soup, crusty bread and seasonal mince pies all our crafters had a very productive and joyful time. A big thanks to Barbara and Audrey for running the day and to Mel, Angie, Sheila & Ann for their support too.

Thinking about Xmas, our hand-made gift stall is available in the library and is constantly being restocked. Knitted toys, blankets, baby clothes, super adult hats, scarves and glove sets are also available. There’s our usual Xmas cracker and Xmas cottages containing chocolate sweets. Prices range from £1 upwards – so something for everyone’s Xmas stocking! A big shout out to the ladies of the Busy Hands Group (meet every Monday afternoon) who are working frantically to keep the stall full of goodies. All the proceeds go towards keeping our library open, so we are very grateful for their support.

Our final coffee morning for 2024 is Saturday December 14th 10am-1pm. There’ll be some fabulous cakes, last minute gifts to buy, our lovely tombola as well as our pre-loved book stall (for Xmas gifting or simply for you to stock up for holiday reading!). Our raffle will be festive themed with some fabulous Xmas hampers and gorgeous Xmas gifts to win. We are also selling a family Festive Quiz – a bargain at £2 – which hopefully will produce good natured discussions/debates over the holiday period!

And finally, a huge thank you to all our volunteers for their commitment and dedication. They’ll be taking a well-earned break as the library will be closed from Tuesday 24th December 2024 to Wednesday 1st January 2025, and we reopen Thursday January 2nd. It just remains for us to wish you all a peaceful festive break and a very happy New Year and thank you once again for your much valued support.
