We kicked November off with a sell-out talk about Carlton Hayes hosted by Enderby Heritage Society. This is always such a popular subject and there were many audience members who had personal anecdotes about the time Carlton Hayes was open which made the event even more relevant and interesting. We hope to continue our collaboration with the Heritage Society next year so watch out for updates via the library or our Facebook page.
Our November coffee morning, as is our tradition, was dedicated to Remembrance Day. There was a fabulous display done by Janet, one of our volunteers. Our Busy Hands ladies received a lovely thank you letter from the Royal British Legion for knitting and crocheting over a thousand poppies which raised funds both at the library and other retail venues. Finally, over £200 from the sale of refreshments at the coffee morning was also donated to the RBH. Well done to our volunteer cake makers and everyone who bought the goodies. It means the vital work of supporting veterans and their families can continue.
Looking forward to December, our Busy Hands ladies have produced a selection of hand-crafted items suitable for stocking fillers. We are supporting the Enderby Xmas light switch on -Friday December 5th– with a Xmas themed tombola(all funds to support the library). The library will be open for the lights event so do come in and support us. Busy Hands will meet Monday 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd December and in the new Year 5th January. Our Adult Social Crafting group will meet Tuesday 9th December for an appropriate Xmas themed activity too. Our Gaming group are not meeting in December but will start again on Wednesday 7th January. Please note that the library will be closed from Tuesday 24th December and will reopen Friday 2nd January 2026.
Our last coffee morning for this year is Saturday 13th December where there will be some fabulous raffle prizes- super food hampers and items donated by library volunteers and well-wishers. There will also be a great selection of pre-loved books and jigsaws for cosy festive evenings; and not forgetting our regular tombola for things you never knew you needed! Come along, grab a cuppa and a cake and come for a chat.
Sadly, this is the last copy of the online Journal. We would like to thank the Journal volunteers for their dedication over the last while. For updates on Enderby Library please follow us on Facebook-Enderby Community Library. We also advertise our events on Facebook -All Things Enderby, Enderby Parish Council noticeboards and of course the library windows!
Finally, two more things. Firstly, a huge shout out to all our volunteers who ensure that the Community library stays open and continues to be relevant to our residents. And secondly a big thank you to all our customers and supporters who make what we do worthwhile. We wish you all a peaceful and healthy festive season and look forward to welcoming you back in the New Year.
