In common with many other public places, we cancelled all of our activities during the 10-day period of Official Mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We were very sorry not to be able to see all of our friends at our monthly coffee morning nor at the ‘Park on the Park’ event. We stayed open for normal library services and to provide a space for quiet reflection for those who wanted it. We hope you were able to come in and make use of that.
On a much happier note, we celebrated National Poetry Day again this year with volunteer, Julia. It was a lovely evening with people enjoying reading out their favourite poems from ‘The Nation’s Favourite Poems’. Julia also read works written by more modern poets like Brian Bilston and Simon Armitage (current poet laureate.) We were joined by John Stafford who will be giving us his talk on John Clare on November 19th at 2pm. Tickets are now on sale in the library for this event, £4 per person to include refreshments. John Stafford has a lot of information on this interesting poet. You can reserve tickets by phone on 0116-3053523 or come in during library open hours.
If you receive and read your Journal very promptly you may still be in time for our talk on the National Garden Scheme (aka Open Gardens). This is on Saturday 22nd October, 2 till 4. Tickets £5.
Pre-schoolers sessions continue to be great fun. No need to book, just turn up with your little ones. Next dates are Wednesday 26th October and 30th November, 2 till 3, £1 per child.
Our personalised bookmark range now includes pictures of the Queen and King Charles. Lots of different designs to choose from. Only £1 each.
November’s coffee morning will be our Remembrance and will be on the 12th. Money raised will go to the Royal British Legion. Hope to see you there. And also at our last one of the year! On December 17th.
Adult social crafting will be making gift boxes on Tuesday 15th November and a fresh foliage candle decoration on Wednesday 14th December. 2.30 to 4pm. £2.50 per person. All materials and cake provided.
Library volunteers will be providing the refreshments for the Bake Off competition in the Civic Centre on the 5th November. Enderby Events have kindly agreed that all funds raised will go to the library. This will include a cake sale/raffle. This was a really enjoyable (and tasty) event last time. We will have some books for sale there and a table where children can decorate biscuits.
