Like other Community led libraries we rely on fund-raising events to support our upkeep. Imagine therefore, how delighted we were to receive a £115 donation from the Methodist Chapel team following its recent closure. Thanks also to the team of library volunteers who braved the blustery Party in the Park to fundraise with a tombola. And a big thank you to every person who donates fiction books to us for resale, supports our monthly coffee mornings and ticketed events. We are truly grateful for your kindness and generosity.
September and early October have been busy. Our regular activities have seen increased numbers attending which is superb. A reminder of these and their dates: Adult Social crafting – 14th November and 12th December, Adult Games – 1st November, Busy Hands-weekly Monday afternoon, Pre-school playtime – 25th October & 29th November and Creative Writing – 28th October and 25th November). It’s great to see the library being used by the community to meet socially. Don’t forget there’s normal book lending, printing, and photocopying facilities available too. Come in and join – it only takes a few minutes, and we’d love to meet you!
We celebrated National Poetry Day – October 5th – with an event organised by Julia. She kept it local and chose poems by poets from the Enderby villages’ street names. Everyone read aloud a well-known poem – Keats, Coleridge, Pope etc. There was a special mention for Chaucer who got married in St Mary de Castro church in Leicester and some tuneful singing of Blake’s Jerusalem! Wine and nibbles helped the evening flow well and everyone agreed that it was insightful and fun.
Finally, some additional dates for your diaries. Saturday 18th November 2 – 4pm local author Stewart Bint will be chatting about his career as a journalist and author. He will also be signing copies of his new book – a great idea for a Xmas present. Tickets cost £5 and include refreshments. Our next coffee morning is Saturday 11th November (refreshment sales will go to the Royal British Legion) – please come and grab some bargain books and try your luck on the raffle and tombola! In December come and get into the festive spirit with Barbara and Audrey as they host our Christmas crafting event on Saturday 9th at 2.30-4pm. And don’t forget, our last Coffee morning for 2023 (another year whizzes by) December 16th
