Well, October was another busy month for us. We started by celebrating National Poetry Day and 15 people brought along the poems that they wanted to take onto their desert island. Thanks to our volunteer Julia, who ably navigated through these and facilitated the lively discussions.
Our library was invited by Danemill School to present an assembly about the joy of reading. The assembly was led by Pat, who really engaged the children with her Winnie the Pooh book from her childhood. We followed with other books we loved and had an interactive session with the children around their own favourite books and characters. The children were very attentive and enthusiastic. A big thank you to Danemill for inviting us and it goes without saying, we had a great time!
Our October coffee morning was incredibly busy – thank you to everyone who came along and supported us. As well as the usual pre-loved books, raffle and tombola and homemade cakes we also had a stall selling some beautiful hand-crafted items made by our Busy Hands Group. All the funds from this are going towards keeping the library open, so we are incredibly grateful to these creative ladies! What is more we are going to continue to sell these beautiful items at the library during the run up to Xmas. The selection is constantly changing, and items are already selling well at pocket-friendly prices. Pop in during library open hours and see what’s on offer.
By the time you read this we will have held our special afternoon about Richard III; tickets sold well thanks to the reputation of Dave Andrews, a radio presenter and former history teacher who reported on the original findings and subsequent activities.
Looking forward now into November and December. Over 60s Games Group is on the first Wednesday of the month. Busy Hands Group meets every Monday afternoon. Our Remembrance Coffee morning – where the refreshments proceeds are donated to the Royal British Legion – is on 9th November 10am -1pm. Adult Social crafting is Tuesday 12th November. There’s the last Pre-School activity session for this year on Wednesday 27th November – tots and carers are most welcome to play and craft. We are, as always, supporting the Enderby Xmas Lights switch on 6th December where we will have a fund-raising tombola and stall selling Xmas items. And finally, our December coffee morning is 14th December 10am – 1pm where our Xmas raffle will be jam packed with hampers full of goodies donated by the library volunteers. We hope, as always, that you will come and support us!
