So, October was a busy month for us. Firstly, Julia ran an event to celebrate National Poetry Day which looked at modern poems. Everyone enjoyed learning about and discussing different poetry styles, and appreciated the audience members who volunteered to read aloud poems. Thanks once again to Julia for another interesting session. Our second fund raiser was a quiz evening in the Civic centre. Ten teams, armed with snacks, drinks and razor-sharp minds battled it out across a range of topics. Thanks to everyone who came and contributed to the head-scratching and fun evening as well . A big thanks also to our volunteers Angie, Janet, Mel, Sue, Geoff and Karen for making sure it all went to plan.
By the time this is published we will have held our Carlton Hayes event in collaboration with Enderby Heritage Society. If you missed it but are interested, the displays relating to this talk will be available to see in the library in early November.
Looking forward, our usual monthly activities are available to all. Busy Hands-every Monday 2.30-4pm, Games Group 2-4pm first Wednesday of the month, Adult Social Crafts Tuesday 11th November and 9th December 2.30-4pm, Creative Writing Saturday 29th November 10.30-12noon, and Tots Playtime Wednesday 26th November 2-3pm. November’s coffee morning is Saturday 8th when, as is our tradition, all proceeds from the sale of refreshments will be donated to the Royal British Legion. . Our Busy Hands are hard at work making poppies for Remembrance Sunday too–all proceeds to the Royal British Legion- so pop into the library to get your hand-crafted poppy to show your support) and Xmas craft items to raise funds for the library
Is it too early to mention Christmas? Well, our Busy Hands group don’t think so! As well as poppies they are busy making Xmas gifts and decorative items to raise funds for the library. These will be available from November, together with a good quantity of pre-loved Xmas jigsaws and books. The Enderby Christmas Lights switch on is December 5th- and we are supporting this with a Xmas themed Tombola as well as helping with the refreshments. And finally, our last (for 2025!) coffee morning is 13th December 10.30am-1pm. The tombola, preloved books and jigsaws as well as crafting items will be available for last minute stocking fillers. Our Xmas raffle prizes will include traditional hampers and a beautiful hand-crafted blanket as well as the normal array of goodies. Pop the date in your diary and come along- we may even sing a few carols!
