Our Summer Reading Challenge was a success with over two thirds of enrolled children completing their reading and getting certificates and medals. Thanks to everyone who encouraged our young readers- a fantastic effort! Looking forward TO October half term there’ll be a craft/play activity for school children. Of course, our Pre-school Playtime -the last Wednesday of the month 2-3pm- continues and is a great opportunity for little ones to play and for their carers to socialise!
Now, autumn always seems to be a good time to do new activities-the influence of “Back to School” so if you’d like to meet people and try something different then read on!
Our monthly Adult Social Crafting has restarted -next meeting is Tuesday 10th October. This term sees a continuation of exploring different materials and will enjoy a festive themed session in December.
Our Busy Hands group has been knitting away in support of two charities. They’ve made lots of tiny baby hats for premature babies as well as a mound of baby vests to support families in fuel poverty. This group meets and chats every Monday afternoon 2.30-4pm and whether you knit, crochet, embroider or quilt just come along and join in.
Our over 60’s games group, as well as playing games also has healthy debates and could probably put the world to rights if given half a chance! A lovely sociable group meets the first Wednesday of the month2-4pm.
Our final regular adult group is Creative Writing which meets on the last Saturday of the month 10.30-12 noon. Whether you are a budding poet, would like to do your autobiography, or love writing fiction come along for guided support.
We have a couple of other events for autumn. We’re hosting an evening event to celebrate National Poetry Day-5th October. Hosted by Julia, tickets are £6 (includes wine and nibbles). Saturday November 18th will see local author Stewart Bint chatting about his career and signing copies of his latest book; tickets are £5(includes refreshments). Tickets are available for both events from the library.
And finally, our next coffee morning is Saturday 14th October. Come along and meet new people, buy our pre-loved books -only 50p each- and indulge in some home-made cake. We’re already looking forward to seeing you!
