Enderby Community Library September 2025

We were pleased to see that we had an increased uptake of children joining in the Summer Reading Challenge with 95 children across both categories. They were mainly from Danemill and the Pastures with a smattering from other schools, pre-schools and nurseries. Well done to everyone who made it to the end and celebrated with their certificates and medals. Our children’s holiday events proved popular too, with around 20 children plus carers per session. The standard of artwork, games tournaments and LEGO building was, as always, fantastic. A huge thank you to our volunteers Mel, Marie, Cath, Liz, Angie & Karen for supporting these activities.

In August we invited Dave Andrews-a former BBC radio producer and reporter-to give us his presentation about “A Hundred Years of the BBC”. Suffice to say, it was an entertaining and fun-filled talk which evoked many memories & much laughter from our audience. If you would like to join in with this kind of activity, our next afternoon event is Saturday October 4th where Julia will be helping celebrate National Poetry Day with a “Magical Mix of Modern Poems”. Tickets are £5 – available from the library – and include light refreshments.

We’ve also got a further 2 ticketed events planned. Firstly, Saturday October 18th we are holding a fund-raising quiz in the Civic Centre 7-9.30pm. Tickets cost £5 and are available from the library. Breaking from tradition & to give him a much-needed break, Geoff isn’t compiling the questions this time but will still be reading them out (and taking all flak directly on the chin as usual)! So, get a team together, come armed with drinks and snacks and prepare to battle it out to become Quiz champions! For our second autumnal event we are teaming up with the Enderby Heritage Society. Elizabeth York will be sharing her presentation about the social history of Carlton Hayes. Tickets are £5 – available from the library – and the proceeds will be shared by the library and the Heritage Society.

Our usual monthly activities are available to all. Busy Hands-every Monday 2.30-4pm, Games Group 2-4pm first Wednesday of the month, Adult Social Crafts Tuesday 7th October 2.30-4pm, Creative Writing Saturday 25th October 10.30-12noon, and Tots Playtime Wednesday 29th October 2-3pm. Half term sees another children’s activity session on Wednesday 22nd October 2.30-4pm (£2 donation on the day). October’s coffee morning is Saturday 11th October with the much-missed tombola back on the scene, as well as the delicious home-made cakes, pre-loved books and jigsaws and raffle prizes aplenty!

And finally, many of you know that one of our key volunteers, Barbara, has been out of action for a little while. We’re delighted to say that she is back. We’ve all missed you greatly Barbara and look forward to seeing you and being organised by you once again!
