The library hosted an all-day event featuring local author Steve Postlethwaite and his new book about Enderby Town Football Club, ‘Forged in Granite’. The club is sadly no longer in existence but is an important part of Enderby’s history. The first team were workers at Enderby quarry back in the late 1800s. Visitors were able to meet and listen to Steve being interviewed in the library in the morning. In the afternoon he moved into the Civic Centre where his huge display of ETFC memorabilia was displayed. It was a day for history- and football-lovers alike. A lot of people came in to browse and talk to him. He has some amazing pictures of old Enderby and the old club. This has been a labour of love for him as his grandfather Horace Jacques and many members of Steve’s family were heavily involved in the club.
Busy Hands are selling various items now to raise funds for the library. These include crocheted owls, tea cosies, hats, dog coats and blankets. They meet in the library on Mondays, 2 till 4.
On the 24th November 2 till 4 and the 4th December 11.30 till 1.30 we will be holding our Xmas wreath-making workshops in the small hall in the Civic Centre. When we were able to run this 2 years ago it was very popular so we have laid on 2 events this year, one mid-week and one on a Saturday.
Also on the 24th November, 2 till 3, it will be pre-schoolers playtime. I’ve not been to one of these yet but the pictures make it look great fun.
The next date for adult social crafting is the 30th November 2.30 till 4. Always fun and always homemade cake and a cuppa! The title for this session is ‘Baubles’.
Library volunteers will be selling refreshments and books etc at the Enderby Christmas Lights Switch On event on Friday December 3rd, 4 till 7. It should be a lovely evening for all the family with the Christmas Tree being lit, craft stalls, a choir and Enderby Band.
Our last coffee morning will be on the 18th December so you’ll have a chance to stock up on reading material and jigsaws for the holiday period and (assuming Busy Hands haven’t sold out) it will be your last chance to buy unusual, hand-crafted gifts. And we may have some of that fantastic collection of Rolling Stones books left.
Library closure dates over the Christmas period are likely to be 24th December until the 3rd January inclusive. These have to be ratified so keep an eye on social media and/or our window displays.
Even though I am writing this article at the beginning of November, this will be the last Journal of the year so all of us at Enderby Library wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2022!
