Enderby Parish Council Open Gardens

Despite the miserable rainy weather, the Enderby Parish Council’s first Open Garden event was a big success with a steady stream of visitors to the gardens throughout the afternoon. Many people went away with some new plants and ideas for projects to keep them busy over the summer months. Their responses were very positive and showed a keen interest in the various different gardens, each with its own character and features.

The garden owners all reported that they too had enjoyed the experience immensely and had taken the opportunity to chat to many local residents; some old friends, some new – a real community experience. The Parish Council would like to thank everyone who worked diligently to open their gardens on the day; we were especially pleased to welcome the Enderby Allotment Society and ‘A Place to Grow’. The Adult Learning Centre staff who supported the event were really helpful, amongst other things handing out poly-pockets on the day to keep all the maps dry! Thanks also go to the Parish Council Events Working Party for organising everything in liaison with the Clerk and her team in the office. Last, but definitely not least, we really appreciated all the people who braved the rain and headed out armed with their brollies and waterproofs to visit the gardens and make all the effort worthwhile, thank-you.

Overall £290 was raised for the King George V Playing Fields (Charity: 1086033) to be used towards the development of the woodland area and £75 for the Enderby Community Library. Everyone is keen to repeat the process in 2023 when, fingers crossed, the weather will be kinder. We hope to see you then, either as a new garden owner or a visitor. Watch this space for details.
