Huncote WI

Huncote WI continues to thrive. We were very grateful to St James Church for allowing us to hold three meetings, August, September and October, in the church itself. In fact we began to feel very much at home there.

We returned to our more familiar ‘home’ in the Church Hall for our November AGM and continue to meet there every second Friday of each month at 7:30 pm. With members’ welfare in mind we have made a few practical changes and attendance at meetings has been good.

So far this year we have enjoyed some very good speakers. In January, Alison Briggs gave a really moving and informative talk about “Mercy Ships”. The charity is run by heroic volunteers all of whom give their time and expertise for free. There are around 400 volunteers on the ship at any one time, taking hope and healing around the world. In February we had “Tales from the Workhouse” when four members from the Workhouse Volunteers set the scene by re-enacting several scenarios from that era. Times were indeed very hard in the 17th – 19th century.

In March we will have a ‘hands on’ session when we will be busy creating Easter Crafts. In April we have Ian Parry from Blaby District Council giving a talk on “Friends Against Scams”.

If you would like to join us at a meeting you would be made most welcome. We offer company, entertainment and of course, cake and a cuppa.
