Leicester Lions raise £13,600 for Prostaid

What a success the 4th beer festival was, fantastic weather, and over 1500 people were there at its new location at Blaby. There were 4100 pints of real ale drunk, over 400 pints of lager, 700 pints of cider, 1200 servings of various gins plus lots of wine & Prosecco. There was over 700 servings of food sold from the Rugby club’s kitchen.

There were over 60 volunteers who put in between 2 – 12+ hours each, giving a total of over 855 hours during the weekend and setting up. This is what Lionism is all about, doing stuff and enjoying it, in and for the community while raising funds at the same time. The Lions clubs and their friends got together from Blaby, Melton, Oadby, Wigston, Earl Shilton & Hinckley and provided volunteers to work behind the bar. Even the ProstAid chief executive tried his hand pulling pints.

Over 90% of the people walked, came by taxi or were dropped off by ‘the wife/partner/girlfriend’!

There was a fantastic 18 hours of live entertainment throughout most of the ‘busy’ times during the event. From a 4 piece jazz band, a 3 person heavy rock band and traditional solo singers. Our thanks go to them for giving their time free for our event.

Comments from departing customers – ‘a great event’, ‘well organised and run’, ‘you must do this every year’. This event now probably ranks as South Leicester’s largest beer festival.

The rugby club was happy with the event and so it has been booked next year for the 27th, 28th & 29th July. The Lions are thankful for the opportunity to use the club’s premises. A massive thanks go out to all our sponsors, in particular EH Smith, Churchgate Auctions & Bradgate Property Mgt.
