Littlethorpe Life July 2023

Scarecrow Festival: We are again running a Scarecrow Festival in September. Given the recent coronation of the new King we thought a “Royalty” theme would be appropriate, however feel free to be as creative as you like under that heading.

So maybe you could create a scarecrow version of a member of the Royal Family, past or present; or you could go down the Disney Prince/Princess route; feel free to think of anything that could loosely fit the Royalty theme!

We are asking for scarecrows to be up by Saturday 16th September and left up for a week with winners announced at the village hall on Saturday 23rd September. Like last year, we will be serving afternoon teas in the village hall on Saturday 23rd along with games, a cake stall (donations much appreciated) and a raffle.

There will be more information on a newsletter through your doors in the coming weeks.

Summer Trip: The Senior Citizens summer outing to Trentham Gardens took place in June. The weather was lovely and everyone enjoyed the gardens and the afternoon tea provided. Thanks again to Liz and Jackie for organising the trip.

Our regular LCA activities will be continuing as usual:

The Art Club continues in the village hall on Biddle Road on Tuesdays 2pm-4pm. The cost is £4.00 per session. For more information contact Tom Bates on 0116 275 2656.

Drop-in Coffee Morning also continue to take place on the second Saturday of the month, 10.00-12.00, also in the village hall.

The Book Sale, Coffee Morning & Warm Space takes place every other Wednesday 9am-1pm in the village hall on Biddle Rd. We have received a grant from the council to be able to offer soup and a bread roll at lunchtime, so we hope to welcome faces old and new.

Gill Ward is continuing to lead the Feel-Good Walks. They take place every Thursday morning from The Plough carpark, ready to set off at 10.15am. There is no need to book. The walks will be at a leisurely pace and finish at approximately midday.

Short Mat Bowls has taken a break for the summer and will resume in September.

LCA meetings: The committee meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7.30pm, alternately in The Plough and The Old Inn. New faces are always welcome.
