Murmuration

Sun sets over the city:
The candy-striped sky gazes down
Onto the silhouetted spires and steeples,
Trees and rooftops greet the view.

Each night will bring forth a spectacle:
The heavens are filled with a glorious sight:
They come in their thousands,
Filling our eyes and hearts with joy.

Looking for sanctuary, rest and protection,
Whirling in a frenzy, sounds of wings
On high, Murmuration of Starlings,
Patterns of wonder and awe.

Once more to settle down in safety
One by one to sleep until dawn arrives,
When once again they must take flight,
On the wing, to meet the day.
