We have been very busy since the schools finished for their holidays and we were delighted to present Royal Quiz winner Chloe with a book about our Queen; not only did she get all of the quiz questions right we chose her answer to the following:
“What do you think the Queen would say about being Queen for 70 years ?” She wrote “I really liked to go on my balcony and see the lovely planes soar above my house” and she gave the name ‘King” to a new corgi for her.
We are also thrilled that Georgie Beeby has already completed the Summer Reading Challenge in super quick time. Georgie was our first Champion this year but children still have until September 10th to complete the challenge so come along to get involved and take part.
Sue, who runs the Wriggly Readers group for under 5s continued the group throughout summer to keep the younger children’s love of reading and books alive and to tie into the Summer Reading Challenge Theme. She also ran a Build a Recycled Robot Craft session for 5-9 year olds.
We have been pleased to be able to host Kate Hayes, Rural Community Council outreach worker, who has been offering step by step help and support to the unemployed to gain training or employment through the Work, Live, Leicestershire Project. Kate has been visiting the library on Wednesday afternoons and has been able to support several people with practical help and advice.
The library has welcomed Ukrainian families in both villages to become members of the library and thus to support them and their host families.
The library took part in the Narborough Summer Fair at Dales Café and Eleven Eleven hairdressers on 7th August and will be holding another Quiz at the Littlethorpe Community Centre on September 30th.
As a library we are now able to support more students through the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme so if you would like to volunteer at the library as part of the scheme please contact your school co-ordinator or email the library nandlclibrary@gmail.com to find out more.
Don’t forget we also hold the following regular activities: Wriggly Readers -Tuesdays 9.15am, Digital Drop In – Wednesdays 10.30am, Busy Hands and Minds 1st and 3rd Fridays 2pm, and Book Club 7.30pm 3rd Thursday of the month.
