Our summer fair is almost here! Join us on June 14th, from 2 – 4pm at the library where we will have lots of fun, including a tombola with lovely gift prizes, a children’s lucky dip, free children’s activity, a bottle bola where you could win a bottle of wine. We will also be selling handmade gifts and toys as well as preloved books.
The fair is also the last chance to get a raffle ticket as the raffle will be drawn at 3:30pm. You can get a luxury hamper, meal vouchers, or even a mobile phone by buying a ticket for £1. Tickets are for sale during normal library opening hours. A full list of prizes is on our website nandlclibrary.org.
The start of June is also volunteer week. Our library is completely run by volunteers, from management and trustees to librarians, group leaders and maintenance. Our volunteers are invaluable. They keep the library running smoothly, and open for everyone to use.
In May we celebrated share a story month with a display of some of the books we’ve enjoyed at the library; these included Lady Tan’s Circle of Women by Lisa See and The Vanishing Half by Britt Bennett. On Sundays we ask our followers what they have been reading this week, this is another great way to discover new stories.
We also had a VE day display to celebrate the 80th anniversary on 8th May. These books are still at the library if you’d like to read about the second world war. The celebration continued outside of the library with lovely bunting made by our Busy Hands and Minds group.
The Summer Reading Challenge for children aged between 4 and 11 begins on June 21st. We will have prizes to give out when children read over the summer provided by The Reading Agency. It’s free to join so keep an eye out on our website, social media and posters around the library for more information.
