The theatregoers have enjoyed a varied programme through the spring and summer starting with “Life of Pi”in Northampton. Leicester Little Theatre’s production of “Dangerous Corner” by J. B. Priestley was also excellent. The play was billed as ‘A tangled web of secrets and lies ‘ which it certainly proved to be.
It was appropriate that our long awaited trip to see “Hamilton”at the Birmingham Hippodrome took place on 4th July. The cost of the trip was well worth paying for the opportunity to see West End quality theatre without paying London prices. The pace of the action, the music: an exciting mix of hip hop, jazz, R&B and rap, excellent dancing and singing made the time fly by. After joining in with the well deserved standing ovation, it was wonderful to step outside the theatre on to the waiting coach and head for home.
“Singin’ in the Rain” at Kilworth House Theatre was joyous feel good entertainment and certainly lived up to its name with the ‘rain’ suitably drenching the cast who seemed to enjoy themselves splashing about on stage and ensuring the 1st couple of rows of the audience received a light sprinkling too. This was an ideal way to spend a warm summer evening in this beautiful scenic outdoor venue. At the end of August, NALT members travelled to the Swan Theatre, Stratford to see “Pericles”.
We now look forward to our autumn/winter programme starting with “History boys “ at the Belgrade theatre, Coventry in October followed by “Anton du Beke,” Showman at De Montfort Hall in November. For January, we have booked to go to a pantomime – “Snow White” at Loughborough Town Hall. Finally in February, we will be seeing “Dial M for Mayhem” at The Royal and Derngate, Northampton.
