Narborough and Littlethorpe Theatregoers July 2023

Warwick Arts Centre was the setting for Wuthering Heights. NALT members walked into the dimly lit auditorium to the sound of bird calls and a voice telling us which birds they were. The play started with Nelly having a nightmare and waking to say, ’He was a monster’. She could only have been talking about Heathcliff. This production bigged up Nelly’s role and also got some laughs from it. She was ‘the glue’ which held the narrative together. As there were only 6 actors playing 11 roles, each put a photo up on the set and took it down when they died. Great acting, comfortable seats and helpful staff made for an enjoyable evening.

A select few NALT members went to Nottingham Playhouse to see Family Tree. The history of Henrietta Lacks is not well known but her tissue was used for important scientific discoveries without any acknowledgement or financial reward.

The new programme is now available to book. The standout show is “Hamilton” for which we have tickets at The Birmingham Hippodrome in July 2024. Many NALT members were disappointed to have missed out on seeing the show in London because of lockdown so we are delighted to have the opportunity to enjoy the performance nearer to home.

Our 1st trip for the new season is a riotous new comedy, “The Crown Jewels” at Milton Keynes. This stars household names, Mel Giedroyc and Neil Morrissey.

“A Voyage Around My Father” at The Theatre Royal, Nottingham, features another well known actor, Rupert Everett, in John Mortimer’s celebrated autobiographical play.

“Evita” is a new Made at Curve production directed by Nikolai Foster.

“Come From Away” is a feel good musical based on a true event that occurred after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It is a reminder of the kindness of strangers and succeeds in being moving, uplifting and hugely entertaining. It has received a multitude of accolades, awards and 5 star reviews.

“Life of Pi” at The Royal Derngate, Northampton is a visually stunning adaptation of the Booker Prize winning book featuring world class puppetry to represent the Royal Bengal tiger, Richard Parker, as well as a zebra and a hyena.

In addition to the shows, the committee will be organising social events, details of which will be sent out to members nearer the time.

Please also note that there are 3 shows including Hamilton that have booking dates in August.
