NALT held its sixteenth AGM on Friday 28 February at Littlethorpe Village Hall and we would like to thank all our members and friends who attended. We had a really great evening and were lucky to be joined by our speakers from Hinckley Concordia Theatre – Trustees Judy Peatfield and John Holt. They spoke so engagingly about the history of Concordia which was originally a disused hosiery factory and opened its doors as a 400-seater theatre in 1972. The Theatre is run and maintained by a group of dedicated volunteers and is home to a number of local amateur societies, they really are a valuable part of the Hinckley community. They spoke about the variety of productions they have in their programme and the Pantomime in particular sounds like a lot of fun for the whole family. They are launching Project 2030, a five-year plan which aims to raise £5m to revitalise the Theatre to ensure that it remains a vibrant space for future generations and NALT wishes them well with this project. They offered NALT the opportunity to have a tour of the theatre and we will certainly be taking them up on that offer, and perhaps combining that with lunch or afternoon tea. We also plan to look at their productions for inclusion in our future programmes. The AGM was followed by drinks and delicious buffet and our Speakers happily chatted with our members – the evening had a really lovely and engaging atmosphere.
We have launched our Spring Programme and by the time you read this we will have attended Handbagged at Curve and hopefully everyone had a wonderful evening – the reviews have been great.
We are going to Derby Theatre, a new venue for NALT, to see Spitfire Girls on 9 April, and on 11 May we are going to Warwick Arts Centre to see the Dad’s Army Radio Show. We have also secured tickets for the last night of Grease at Kilworth House Theatre. This is always a popular trip and we allow enough time for a picnic in the glorious grounds – we are usually very lucky with the weather, so fingers crossed for a lovely sunny afternoon and warm evening!
If you are considering joining us you are welcome to contact our Membership Secretary: Alison Polydor at alison.polydor@gmail.com who will be happy to provide more details. We have a really varied programme of theatre trips throughout the year and also include some social events so that Members can get to know each other. New Members are always welcome.’
