The Narborough and Littlethorpe Theatregoers have been visiting a variety of theatres in the vicinity – how lucky we are to live within an hour or so from such a selection!
Our first visit of 2025 was to Loughborough to see the panto at the beginning of January: a wonderful show and then “Dial M for Mayhem” at the Royal and Derngate Theatre, Northampton. This is a new touring production and we had high hopes of a fun show. The NALT members were somewhat divided with some feeling that although amusing it was a bit too frenetic, while others thoroughly enjoyed it, as you can read in the review from one of our members:
“Members of the Narborough and Littlethorpe Theatre goers visited Northampton’s Royal and Derngate Theatre to see the play “Dial M for Mayhem”. This is a fast paced ‘full-on” and cleverly choreographed play inspired by the famous Dial M for Murder story. It is packed full of imaginative, funny instances also moody situations which all together causes constant and hilarious mayhem.
The actors seamlessly fulfilled their part(s) working energetically and effectively providing the audience with twists, turns and surprises throughout the play. There was a lot to appreciate within what may have seemed to be a ‘slapstick’ story but with more to it than that. As one left the theatre a palpable atmosphere of cheerfulness and satisfaction pervaded.”
We have already been booking for our next shows: “Handbagged” at Curve which imagines what went on behind closed doors between the Queen and Margaret Thatcher in their weekly meetings. It has excellent reviews. In April we are going to Derby Theatre, a new venue for us, to see “Spitfire Girls” to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day and in May we will be at Warwick Arts centre to see – and listen to – “The Dad’s Army Radio Show”.
The new programme of plays is ready for our AGM on Friday, February 28th at 7.30pm at Littlethorpe Village Hall, Biddle Road, where we will have a very short business meeting followed by speakers form The Concordia Theatre , Hinckley, and a delicious buffet.
NB: You do not have to live in Narborough or Littlethorpe to join us, we have members from other villages too.
The coach pick up points are at The Copt Oak on Hardwicke/The Pastures, Narborough and Littlethorpe Parish Council offices (just down the road from BDC offices) and The Beauty Salon in Littlethorpe.
Our Bookings Secretary, Wendy, is now also taking bookings for our annual trip to Kilworth House where we have a picnic in the grounds before seeing the show; this year “Grease”.
If you think you might be interested in joining us, come along to the AGM ( if you read this in time!) or contact our membership Secretary: alison.polydor@gmail.com who will be happy to provide more details.
