On the last Sunday in August, the sun shone once again as members of NALT enjoyed our annual trip to Kilworth House Open Air Theatre. Prior to the show we had time for a leisurely picnic in the grounds before walking across the bridge and into the woods ready to be transported to the English seaside for “Half a Sixpence”. Originally a hit for Tommy Steele in the 60s, this tale of rags to riches to rags and then back to riches, was updated in 2016 with new songs whilst still retaining its period feel with wonderful costumes and staging.
All the cast danced and sang with energy, skill and exuberance. Special mention must however go to Dominic Sibanda who played the lead Arthur Kipps with a cheeky charm, has a great voice and was still seemingly effortlessly jumping onto tables right up to the end of the show.
The classic number “Flash, Bang, Wallop” was a genuine toe tapper with brilliant choreography as was “Pick out a Simple Tune”. At the end of the show, all the cast came out playing banjos and the audience were on their feet. The whole production was full of joy and energy and everything from the staging to the lighting, the singing and dancing was fantastic and encapsulated the joy of live theatre.
If you are interested in joining NALT there is still one production available for booking in our current season — the smash hit musical “Six” at Milton Keynes Theatre. The committee will shortly be meeting to plan next season’s programme. We also hold social events for members several times a year.
Please contact our new membership secretary, Alison for further information on joining. alison.polydor@gmail.com or 07947256154. Membership of NALT is open to all Journal readers. There are 3 pick up points in Littlethorpe and Narborough or you can use your own transport to the venue.
