We have had a mixture of weathers of late but most of it has made us think of autumn, and the trees are quickly shedding their leaves.
The Summer Reading Challenge at the library finished on September, and of the children who signed up, over 52% completed the challenge. It was great to see the ‘completers’ given their medals and certificates and often proudly standing on the podium to have a photo taken to mark the occasion.
Do keep an eye open for the regular library book sales, the most recent being on Saturday 14th September when the sun shone for a change. They are always advertised on the local noticeboards, the next one will probably be in the Spring now, but are always dependant on the weather. You can be sure of picking up some very good books on the day and perhaps one or two beautiful photographic greeting cards made by a member of the library team. If you miss the sales there are always a supply of books for sale inside the library.
On 11th October the next library quiz is going to be held at the Narborough Parish Centre with tickets at £5 each from the library for teams of up to six. It promises to be a good night, so sharpen your pencils and do join us.
Throughout the week the regular activities continue with enthusiasm. None of the groups require library membership, just call in. All our groups ask for is a minimum donation of £1 per session. All of the adult groups provide a hot drink and biscuits, as well as a warm space and good company.
Sue leads the popular Wriggly Readers group on Tuesdays from 9.15 to 10.30 for children up to 5 years old and their parents/carers. It’s a very friendly and supportive group where the little ones hear stories and songs and there are book-based activities and games. Boris the badger is a popular member of the group and he goes home with a different child each week to share in their stories and activities.
From 11am until 1pm on Tuesdays the Board Game group meet in the library for a chat and to play dominoes, Scrabble, or a game of your choice.
The Digital Drop-In runs on Wednesdays from 10.30 until 12.30 where friendly support is available to help you if you need to build up your confidence and skills on your digital devices. You can either drop in with your device and join the group or make an appointment by e-mail at the library for a one to one session.
If you are creative, or maybe just like to chat with others, why not look in on the Busy Hands and Minds Group from 2-4 on Fridays in the library, where you can enjoy sewing, knitting, playing cards or Bingo, or maybe a quiz. Bring your own work or work with others on a larger project. Have a look at the current harvest display outside the library at the moment. Lots of work but lots to see, and they have Christmas plans already both for the library and for the Christmas tree festival.
The Book Club meets monthly on Thursdays at 7.30pm and their next meeting is on 19th September.
The library has lots to offer other than just lending books, so do pop in and see what there is. Our team of volunteers would love to talk to you, and if you would be interested in joining the team, please let us know as volunteers are always needed and warmly welcomed.
