Narborough & Littlethorpe WI August 2022

What a busy time we’ve had recently! Our 2 darts teams have been out and about to different venues, meeting members of different WIs and winning, or losing, darts matches! We have to wait until the end of August to find out which of all the teams is the overall winner!

At the beginning of July we had our annual county quiz; there were 4 venues who all hosted a quiz for WIs local to them and each venue had the same questions. There was a winner from each venue and our A team, The Dollymixtures, won at Wigston. They were then placed third overall, so a very good result!

In June Dr Ben Coyle, from EMICS (East Midlands Immediate Care Scheme, which is a network of volunteer doctors with specialist training in pre-hospital emergency medicine who assist East Midlands Ambulance Service at the scene of life threatening emergencies) came to talk to us, bringing most of the equipment he uses. EMICS is only funded by donations but provides a service that is not always recognised. We all know about the Air ambulance because we see or hear the helicopter but these medics usually use their own vehicles, arriving quietly at the scene of accidents and emergencies! It was a very informative talk.

Our July speaker was Jo Golby who has worked at various stately homes giving tours and talks; she was in costume although it was a very warm evening! We heard about life as a lady’s maid – a very humorous tale.

In August we will be welcoming Ian Retson, who will be telling us about the Woodland trust and the National Forest, then in September we will be entertained by The Two Janets with their Fun with Antiques.

If you are interested to find out more about us, we meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month (not December) at 7.30pm in St Pius X church hall, Narborough. Please come along, a warm welcome awaits you!
