Leicester residents are being urged to support a new RSPCA charity shop in Oadby and in turn help animals cared for at RSPCA Woodside Animal Centre.
The fabulous new store is located at 25 The Parade, Oadby, Leicester LE2 5BB and is described as a “next generation” charity shop – putting the environment and sustainability at the heart of its ethos.
Emma Peake, CEO for the branch said “ We are conscious of the environment and have fitted out our shop using recycled materials where possible, it’s rather a different approach and one that I hope others will follow. We all have to be kinder to the planet which in turn helps us be kinder to animals ”
The new shop was opened on Friday 8th November at 10.30am by Roxanne Hudson, a Leicester based social media influencer and the RSPCA Chief Inspector Sarah Bate and local residents queued and were eager to go in and see all the great bargains on offer.
The shop will bring the total number of shops run by the RSPCA Leicestershire, Peterborough and Rutland Branch to eight – and the money raised supports the Woodside Animal Centre which helps hundreds of animals every year.
Neil Everall, Head of Fundraising and Marketing for the branch said: “The team has been working round the clock to get our new shop ready and I cannot thank everyone enough for all their efforts and we are all so excited and we hope the local community will support us.
“All the money raised from our shop will be used to help animals in need in the Leicestershire, Rutland and Peterborough area covered by our branch.
“It’s been a lot of hard work for everyone involved in getting the shop ready for opening – but it’s definitely been worth it. It will also be the first shop in our exciting new RSPCA brand.
“Visitors to our shop will be able to find some amazing items tucked away on the rails and shelves and this is a next generation charity shop where we put the environment and sustainability at the heart of what we do.
“It’s also very poignant that we are opening this new shop in our 200th year – where the RSPCA has been rescuing, rehabilitating animals in need.
Neil added: “We’re happy to receive donations, particularly clothing and items of homeware and we have volunteering opportunities for anyone who would like to give some time or get some retail work experience in roles such as cashier, stock sorters, merchandisers and social media guru.”
If you would like to help volunteer please visit www.rspcawoodside.org.uk/volunteering The shop will be open Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
Other charity shops run by the branch are in Birstall, Blaby, Hinckley, Market Deeping, Melton Mowbray, Wigston & Whittlesey.
