In the week leading up to half term, The Pastures hosted a Silent Disco for the first time ever. Everyone was provided with wireless headphones that allowed them to choose their own child-friendly music. Both children and adults thoroughly enjoyed this unique experience.
To complete their topic work about Hinduism. Year 3/4 visited the beautiful BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir (temple) on Gypsy Lane in Leicester. The children were given a tour of the interior including its magnificent marble columns, carvings, shrines and domes. Thank you to the staff at the Mandir for their warm welcome.
Lots of activities are planned for World Book Day with both children and staff celebrating their love of reading by dressing up as a favourite book character. Our reading ambassadors will have the difficult job of judging the best costumes and awarding prizes. There will be lots of opportunities to read and listen to stories, as well as other book-related activities including a visit to the independent bookseller ‘Roving Books’ where the children can spend their free Book Voucher. In addition, we are looking forward to the visit of award-winning children’s author Ross Montgomery who will share many of his weird and wonderful books, hopefully inspiring pupils to develop their own writing.
EYFS are comparing different landscapes by exploring the book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ as well as exploring Africa through ‘Handa’s Surprise.’ In Design and Technology, Key Stage 1 designed, constructed and evaluated their own ‘Wacky Races’ carts. The children are also enjoying becoming plant experts with each class tending to their own amaryllis as well as growing daffodils. A welcome sign that spring is just round the corner!
