Half term allowed us all to recharge our batteries despite the terrible weather! Many of the children and staff found time to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week, dedicated to celebrating kindness and brightening someone’s day. Every child had a card to colour in and deliver to anyone they thought deserved our thanks. Recipients included police officers working at a Leicester City football match and receptionists working at a Doctor’s Surgery. Some children also handed out small, handmade gifts such as bookmarks to their fellow class members. As a school we aim to keep this kindness going every day!
‘Move it March’ encouraged children (and staff) across South Leicestershire to get more active, aiming for at least 60 minutes of exercise every day. Pastures’ children were encouraged to walk, scoot and cycle to and from school helping them to achieve bronze, silver, gold and platinum certificates, and the possibility of winning Active Champion t-shirts and a trophy for the most active class. On a similar theme, on Shrove Tuesday our Sporting Ambassadors organised lunchtime Pancake Races on the playground – saucepans and pancakes substituted with racquets and soft balls! There was also a special assembly led by Mrs Shaw that reminded us about the meaning of Shrove Tuesday and Lent.
Finally, on the 25th anniversary of World Book Day, we celebrated our love of reading by coming to school dressed as a book character. The children looked amazing in their costumes with Horrid Henry, Wally (of Where’s Wally? fame), Mary Poppins and Oompa Loompa’s proving very popular. The children had lots of time to read, listen to stories and write book reviews. In addition, every child went home with a Book Voucher to encourage them to read even more books.
