Pastures Pinboard March 2024

We are already heading towards Easter and the children are enjoying their new topics. EYFS children are comparing where they live with Africa through stories, art and food. Year 1/2’s literacy is based on Aesop’s well-known fable ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’ while their history topic is ‘What was life like for my nan?’ exploring how toys, transport and technology have changed over the decades.

It is a particularly hectic time for the Year 3/4s. The Year 4s enjoyed their 2-day residential at ‘Boundless Outdoors’ near Stourbridge. They experienced a range of activities including zip wire, climbing towers, archery, orienteering and rifle shooting. Meanwhile, the Year 3s found out about the Anglo Saxons, designing and constructing a village, as well as looking at artefacts. As if that wasn’t exciting enough, 3/4 are busy rehearsing for their production of ‘Go for Gold’ a musical comedy about the modern and ancient Olympics. In science, Year 5 and 6 are discovering the origins of the species by looking at the ideas of evolution and inheritance. In history they are continuing to learn about Egyptians and the historical significance of Tutankhamun. Meanwhile, Year 5 are finding out about the outside artist Ben Wilson who creates tiny works of art by painting chewing gum stuck to the pavement!

As usual, there are lots of opportunities at school to be active and compete in a range of sports. Years 4 and 6 are benefitting from the expertise of a Leicester City football coach. Meanwhile, the girls’ Y5/6 team have qualified for the Premier League Primary Stars Under-11 football tournament held at Derby County’s ground, as well as the Midlands Regional Final at Port Vale’s stadium. Good luck girls, we know you will do us proud! ‘Move it March’ was launched in a whole school assembly with Spike the mascot. Children are being encouraged to increase their physical activity by recording every 15 minutes of walking, running, PE lessons and any other exercise that requires physical exertion!

As well as encouraging the children to have healthy bodies, The Pastures is proud to introduce the award-winning program ‘My Happy Mind’. Through fun activities, the children are being taught to look after their brains and maintain positive mental health, building resilience and self-esteem, skills they need to thrive in the modern world.

Other events being planned include World Book Day, Comic Relief and of course finding out about Easter – the meaning behind it and how it is celebrated. A short but extremely busy term!
