Pastures Pinboard March 2025

‘Move it March’ was launched in a whole school assembly with a special guest – the mascot Active Anita. As always, we are encouraging children to increase their physical activity by recording every 15 minutes of walking, running, PE lessons and any other exercise that requires physical exertion (including walking, cycling or scooting to and from school). Bronze, silver and gold awards were presented with platinum winners becoming ‘Blaby Bears Active Champions’ and entered into a prize draw. The most active class in school also won a trophy.

Year 3/4 headed back in time for a Tudor Day held at school. Through hands-on workshops, the children found out about Tudor life as well as meeting Henry VIII, Catherine Parr and a court jester. They also learnt Tudor dances, crafted a Tudor rose badge and found out what it was like to be a child in Tudor times playing with a range of toys and games. The day ended with everyone coming together for a traditional ‘Mummers’ Play’ – storytelling and acting to bring together everything the children had learnt. Many thanks to ‘The Specialists’ for helping us bring history to life!

Y1/2 spent a day diving into the underwater on their trip to the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham. They came face to face with some amazing creatures including sharks, seahorses, sea otters and penguins. The children were a credit to the school and their gasps as they walked through the tunnels were priceless!

As an introduction to Science Week, Alex visited us to carry out some ‘hands-on’ experiments to help explain optical illusions, gravity and chemical reactions. In addition, we dedicated two days to allow the children to find out about a specific environmental issue with parents invited to come in and see what they had found out.

Members of the Wombles In Litter Education (WILE) joined us for a special assembly to talk all things rubbish and the role of litter pickers! These volunteers help to keep Leicestershire litter free – after five years, the Wombles have collected over 200.000 bags of rubbish that others have tossed away, some of which date back decades. WILE is helping to change attitudes encouraging everyone to take their litter home! Many thanks to all the volunteers, and the rest of the team. who give up their time to improve our environment and protect wildlife.

Year 4 enjoyed their two-day residential at Boundless Outdoors, Worcestershire. Children experienced a range of exciting, and sometimes challenging, outdoor pursuits including archery, zip wiring, climbing, orienteering and problem solving. They also developed leadership and teamwork skills whilst gaining independence by being away from home. All the children were a credit to the school – well done to you all!

As always, Comic Relief proved to be a lot of fun with children and staff dressing up as crazily as possible with lots of odd socks and shoes, backward clothes and clashing colours with prizes for the wackiest outfits! In addition, there were some silly songs, a teacher versus children fun quiz as well as the children providing jokes to contribute to The Great Pastures Joke Book! Congratulations to the children, staff and parents for helping us raise an impressive amount of money.
