Patures Pinboard May 2023

Sarah Saunders, a member of the Dog Trust, delivered a special assembly and ran workshops for the children in Key Stage 2. She taught us the importance of understanding dogs to help us stay safe. Sarah also informed us that there are 22 rehoming centres across the country and, in 2022, approximately 12,000 dogs were rehoused.

Foundation Stage read the story ‘St George and the Dragon’ and are also investigating minibeasts and farm animals. Meanwhile, Year 1/2 are learning all about plants and trees in science, including the different parts of a plant and what they need to survive.

Year 3/4 are finding out about the Battle of Bosworth, Richard III and his significance to Leicester. They are also investigating how electricity works and having opportunities to be ‘hands on’ making different types of circuits. The same children also enjoyed producing a story exhibition. Other children in the school were invited to see their props and enjoy their story telling about Charlie, a little boy who, after getting lost in the Savannah, discovers the importance of kindness.

In history, Year 5/6 are finding out about Alice Hawkins who was a member of the Women’s Suffrage Society in Leicestershire and whose statue can be seen in Market Square. Continuing the historical theme, they also explored the structures of the engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel and worked in groups to construct their own bridges.

Finally, the whole school celebrated the coronation of King Charles III by dressing in red, white and blue, making a range of ‘royal’ crafts and singing the National Anthem. The children also enjoyed playing traditional games on the field including egg and spoon races, hula hooping, hopscotch and musical statues.
