Pastures Pinboard May 2024

It has been a particularly busy few weeks at The Pastures with children enjoying new topics across the school. EYFS have been exploring how plants, minibeasts and farm animals grow and change while Key Stage 1 have been learning about the countries that make up the United Kingdom, making national flowers, drawing animals, and discovering facts about famous landmarks. Year 3/4 have been researching rainforests – where in the world they are found and how plants and animals have adapted to survive in this environment. Year 5/6 have carried out an in-depth study of Brazil as well as exploring fossils and evolution in science.

On Monday 22nd April, the whole school celebrated World Earth Day with the theme ‘Planet v Plastics’. EYFS talked about ‘Reusing and Repurposing’ creating games out of junk including skittles and mini golf. Key Stage 1 turned their classrooms into oceans complete with beautiful sea creatures while Year 3/4 reused coloured cardboard packaging to create their ocean creatures. Year 5/6 looked at ‘throw-away fashion’ upcycling old clothes to produce some amazing new garments that the rest of the school were able to view. On a similar theme, our ECO Committee have been busy playing their part by litter picking around the school grounds.

Finally, children in Key Stage 2 have had an exciting opportunity to be part of this year’s Cosby Summer Yarn Bomb Festival where the village will be decorated with incredible installations. This year’s theme is ‘Fun and Games, Mischief and Mayhem!’ and the children have made Tibet prayer style flags showing positive values including kindness, happiness and being unique. If you wish to view the children’s contribution, the displays will be up from 10 July to 31 July 2024.
