We are having a busy half term in the run up to Christmas with lots of activities to enrich our curriculum. Year 3/4 children visited the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery in Leicester. They took part in a workshop exploring the lives of Ancient Egyptians, looked at the exhibits, handled artefacts and found out about the mummification process. A fascinating day where we all learnt something! In other news, children across the school enjoyed a Glow in the Dark Disco complete with foam glow sticks and temporary tattoos.
To mark Remembrance Day, every class made a poppy wreath and the whole school fell silent for one minute. Odd Sock Day marked the start of Anti-Bullying Week with everyone able to demonstrate what makes them unique and special. Meanwhile, our Prime Minister and her Deputy, together with the School Council, came up with fund raising ideas for Children in Need. Children and staff came to school resplendent in spots while cake and cookie sales helped boost the total raised. Many thanks to everyone who supported us by baking and with their generous donations.
As we head towards Christmas, the children (and staff) are getting more and more excited. There are plans for a special Christmas Film Night accompanied by popcorn and sweets, our annual Christmas Art Day full of crafts, sparkle and glitter, plus Christmas Jumper Day where staff and children alike show off their flashing festive knits. This year, for the whole school pantomime visit, we are returning to Loughborough Town Hall to see their swashbuckling performance of ‘Peter Pan.’
Children of all ages will be entertaining parents and other family members; EYFS have their own Christmas performance while Key Stage 1 are working hard on ‘The Nativity’ a traditional telling of the Christmas story. Meanwhile, Key Stage 2 will be ‘singing and signing’ carols and songs at the end of the school day. Lots to look forward to in the coming weeks!
It only remains for us to wish everyone connected with The Pastures a very merry Christmas, and a happy New Year. We look forward to welcoming the children back into school on Monday 8th January 2024!
